What a time to be alive. Celebrities can now amass followers in the hundreds of millions across multiple social media platforms, making them astoundingly influential. From athletes to musicians, it boggles the mind to think how much these individuals can earn with a single post. It is, of course, debatable as to whether they actually make any of their own posts, probably not, but that doesn’t stop them from being enormously popular.

Let’s take a look at the most popular influencers in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 517M

If you thought the most followed individual in the world was going to be a musician, guess again. It just so happens that Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed influencer in the world. Across all platforms he has a staggering 517 million followers. It might seem outrageous at first, but let’s not forget just how popular football is in virtually every country on earth. Imagining what Ronaldo is paid for a single marketing Tweet really is astounding.

Justin Bieber – 455M

Now we have the musician that everybody was expecting to be at number 1. Yes, the musician everyone loves to hate is in second place with 455 million followers. Not bad for a kid that got picked up randomly after making his own social media post. If you’re wondering, it’s Instagram where Bieber has the most followers, with the grand total coming in at around 169 million.

Ariane Grande – 429M

If you’ve been online at all lately, even if just too randomly check out the slots online Canada loves, chances are you’ve heard something about Ariana Grande. Yes, she comes in at a respectable third, boasting a social media fan base of 429 million. Rumours suggest she’ll be overtaking the Bieber soon, but that remains to be seen.

Selena Gomez – 425M

Though, Ariana might be more worried about being overtaken by Selena Gomez. Gomez is fast moving up the ranks, all but nipping at the heels of third place. With 425 million she is certainly no slouch.

Taylor Swift And The Rock

Falling off by a substantial few million we have Taylor Swift and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It’s interesting that The Rock is the first thespian on the list, especially given that he has ‘only’ 342 million followers. He has a long way to go before he reaches the same popularity as a musician, which really is an interesting thought. There was a time when this list would have been overwhelmed by actors and actresses, though that time seems to have officially passed.

Kylie Jenner

Given that the Jenner sisters are regarded as social media royalty its fascinating that Kylie only pitches up at number 8. She has 333 million followers, with her Instagram account carrying the bulk; 224 million. She is likely desperate to get the numbers up on some of the other platforms, but then again, her entire celebrity status is more or less based on Instagram photos. What a difficult life she must have.
